8 Aussie Stereotypes and How Accurate They Actually Are

Let’s set a few things straight about the land down under.

I don’t live in a remote or rural area. I live in Lithgow, NSW, which is about two hours west of Sydney. We consider ourselves country-folk, but life here is definitely suburbia.

So, as I sat on my lounge this morning sipping my coffee, watching a mob of Kangaroos make their way through my estate, bounding past my front window, I couldn't help but laugh at how accurate some of the stereotypes are about living in Australia.

I remember when I visited the states a few years ago on a work trip, the minute I said I was an Aussie, I was met with the following:

“Oh G’day mate! Throw another shrimp on the barbie! And hey, do you guys really have Kangaroos like hanging out in your backyard?”

There was no point where it stopped being amusing when I smiled and said, “yes, actually, there’s a regular mob that are great for keeping the front grass down.”
