I Don’t Have Covid, But My Unvaccinated Toddler Does

She was born into the pandemic, and I’ve spent every day since trying to keep her safe, for what?

I was more than a little shocked when my husband tested positive for Covid-19 just over a week ago.

Our daughter was born in April 2020, when, until now, things were the worst they had been during the pandemic. My grandfather passed away the day after she was born. In the space of a week, I experienced exactly what it was to bring a new life into the world and farewell another during a global pandemic.

I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Understandably since we have treated the pandemic with an abundance of caution, not because we thought we were under any real threat from Covid; statistically, even if we got it, our chances were good. But going through what we went through in April 2020 motivated us to do our part in all this. Whatever it took to keep the cases low and hopefully prevent anyone else from having to experience what we did, we were willing to do.

That meant a lot of sacrifice and even conflict between us and others who didn’t feel the same way toward it as we did. Regardless, we never thought it was our right to compromise…

Keeping it weird. I have too many thoughts so I write to clear some headspace. I rant, rave, ramble and occasionally make things up.
